KSB Hospital in partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, the Urban Medicine Program at the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Medicine and the National Center for Rural Health Professions (NCRHP), has established one in a series of regional Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) across Illinois.
The Northwest Illinois AHEC office located in Polo, serves Boone, Bureau, Carroll, DeKalb, Henderson, Henry, Jo Daviess, Knox, La Salle, Lee, Mercer, Ogle, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Stephenson, Warren, Whiteside, and Winnebago counties.
Funded by a federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services the Illinois initiative is under the auspices of NCRHP.
The mission of the Northwest Illinois Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is to improve health by leading the nation in the recruitment, training and retention of a diverse health workforce for underserved communities.
The Illinois AHEC Network will develop and offer innovative and long-term solutions to health and workforce disparities by linking students to careers, health professionals to communities, and communities to better health. The goal is to improve access to and quality of care for the underserved through health professions education, health careers development, and community and public health promotion activities.
