The AHEC Scholars Program is a competitive two-year program that expands on health professions student education and training. Students gain additional experience in rural and underserved areas and work with other students who share their passion for rural healthcare.
This progam is an excellent opportunity for students to build their professional profile and to network with current health professionals.
During the 2 years, students participate in:
- two in-person, 1.5 day summer insititutes
- An underserved health experience
- Distance based learning on 6 core topic areas (interprofessional education, behavioral health integration, social determinants of health, cultural competence, practice transformation, and current/emerging health issues
- A community service learning project
