Welcome to the East Central IL AHEC website!
The East Central IL Area Health Education Center (AHEC) was established in the Fall of 2014 at Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services in Gibson City, IL.
East Central IL AHEC’s program is designed to:
  • Promote rural health careers to students
  • Provide support to these students to become health professionals that practice in rural areas
  • Provide rural health professionals with opportunities for continuing education
  • Support the communities we serve with health education initiatives
Counties served by the East Central IL AHEC include Livingston, Kankakee, Ford, Iroquois, Champaign, Vermilion, Douglas, Edgar, Coles, Clark, and Cumberland.
Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services established the center in partnership with the University of Illinois College Of Medicine at Rockford, the Urban Medicine Program at the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Medicine and the National Center for Rural Health Professions (NCRHP).
Funded by a federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Illinois initiative is under the auspices of NCRHP.
